Prof. Dr. Halil M. Güven

Prof. Dr. Halil M. Güven served as rector of three different universities in Turkey and North Cyprus (1998-2011): As the founding rector Bahçeşehir University in Istanbul, Turkey; as the rector of Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) in North Cyprus; and as the rector of Istanbul Bilgi University in Turkey. Prior to 1998, Dr. Güven worked at San Diego State University (SDSU) for fourteen years as a professor of Mechanical Engineering.

In addition to his wide range of experiences in higher education and university administration in Cyprus, Turkey, Republic of Georgia and USA, Dr. Güven is an energy expert with specializations in power plant engineering, alternative energy, energy efficiency, and sustainability. At the YEKSEM 2013 conference, organized jointly by Turkish and Turkish Cypriot Chambers of Architects and Engineers (TMMO and KTMMO), in Kyrenia, in North Cyprus, he delivered the invited keynote address on “Renewable Energy and Net Zero Energy Buildings”. He served as vice-president and president of San Diego Chapter of Association of Energy Engineers (AEE). He worked on numerous energy and environmental projects in the USA, Turkey and North Cyprus. In San Diego he founded and directed two important centers, namely the Energy Engineering Institute on applied energy research for industrial and manufacturing facilities, and the Energy Analysis and Diagnostics Center (funded by U.S. Department of Energy), on evaluating energy usage by small to medium size industrial facilities. He is a member of AEE, ASHRAE, and NAFSA.

Majid Hashemipour, Ph.D.

Majid Hashemipour, Ph.D. Senior ABET Officer, San Diego State University (SDSU), Georgia
Prof. Majid Hashemipour Joined the San Diego State University Georgia program as a senior ABET officer in January 2016. Prior to joining SDSUG program, he held a position, as a Rooney Scholar at the Robert Morris University in Pittsburgh. He earned his BSc and MSc degrees from Warwick University, UK in 1986 and his PhD from Eastern Mediterranean University, Cyprus in 1997. He has worked for 28 years in the department of mechanical engineering at the Eastern Mediterranean University.

The most part of his work in the Department has been in the area of teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in Manufacturing Technology, Application of Software Engineering, Computer Integrated Manufacturing, Mechatronics and Automation. He has always had a strong enthusiasm for research activities and supervision of Master and PhD students.

He has undertaken a number of administrative positions in the past 16 years. During his tenure as head of the department, the mechanical engineering department was able to successfully meet the criteria set by ABET for the accreditation process which had been ongoing for six years, having commenced in the year 2005. He established an office for International student recruitment and academic collaboration called “International Center”. He was the co-coordinator of the Centre until the year 2007 before being promoted to the position of Vice Rector for administration and international affairs in 2009..
